A teenager stopped traffic on the A6 in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Max Shearer, 18, Walton le Dale, was found sitting on a wall of the bridge over the River Ribble.

Lancashire Police closed the A6 for around an hour while a negotiator was called to the scene.

Police said Mr Shearer was being abusive and had threatened to jump in the river.

Mr Shearer was persuaded to come down from the bridge and was charged with breach of the peace.

He was due to appear at Chorley Magistrates Court yesterday.
