A plan to build 200 new homes on land off Whittingham Road will be the subject of a planning appeal this week.
AdvertisementFox Strategic Land and Property Ltd have applied to build a housing complex which would include offices and a swimming pool.
Campaigners and residents fear the development would merge Longridge and Preston.
The city council’s planning committee were due to discuss the plans this Monday.
Officers from the city council are not proposing to contest the appeal after receiving legal advice.
The site proposed for development is the former Ridings Depot.
A previous application for the site was refused by the planning committee in January 2012 and the planning inspector upheld the decision.
Fox then resubmitted the application, triggering objections from Whittingham Parish Council.
Parish councillor felt the plans would see an increase in traffic and the scale of development is inappropriate.
They believe a distinct boundary is needed to prevent the merging of the Ribble Valley and Preston.
The appeal hearing begins on Wednesday.
