More than 700 properties in Preston awoke to find themselves without power.
Engineers from Electricity North West were called out at 7.30am on New Year’s Day due to a cable fault.
Power was restored to 587 properties within an hour and the rest of the homes were back on just after 9.30am.
The loss of power caused many house alarms to be set off in the area, leaving many with hangovers from welcoming in the New Year cursing.
A spokesman for Electricity North West said they apologised for any inconvenience caused.
The contact centre is open 24/7 on 0800 195 4141 if people have issued with power cuts.
The fault follows a number of incidents in recent days, on Sunday a substation caught fire in Leyland knocking out power to more than 2,000 homes.
On Monday evening, nearly 4,000 homes in Penwortham lost power after an electrical fault.
