Proposals to build twelve new townhouses on the canal basin in Ashton look set to be approved.
AdvertisementBaxter Construction plans for the homes off Tulketh Brow will go before councillors next week.
The operator of the Ashton Basin boatyard say they are concerned the development would restrict access for cranes and articulated lorries to deliver and lift boats.
The plot of land was home to lock up garages which were demolished.
Planning officers write: “The proposed development would be beneficial in re-using a previously developed site and contributing to the supply of housing within a sustainable location.
“The proposed access has been designed to accommodate traffic in a reasonably safe and convenient manner and is unlikely to have any significant affect on highway safety.
“The proposed scheme has been designed to address its position with the adjacent canal and canal basin and would provide a satisfactory design in terms of its layout and scale.”
The Lancaster Canal basin was recently part of a competition by the Royal Institute of British Architects and Preston City Council called Forgotten Spaces.
The winning entry was an idea for a lido at the canal basin.

Councillors will consider the plans at a meeting of the planning committee at the Town Hall on Monday from 10am.
