Armed police detain man with rifle by River Ribble

Armed response officers were called out in Preston this afternoon.

Officers from Lancashire Police attended an area of the River Ribble following reports of a man with a rifle.

Helicopter support was provided by the police helicopter based at Warton.

The incident took place around 3.15pm on Sunday after a call from a member of the public saying there was a “suspicious man with rifle by River Ribble”.

The man was found and detained by armed police and an air rifle seized.
