Rain over St Marks

The weather gods have clearly not got the message that it is nearly Christmas.

The Met Office forecasters have issued a yellow warning of rain for Friday afternoon as thousands prepare to pack up and leave Preston and the surrounding area – or families prepare to welcome loved ones from across the country.

Heavy rain along with gale force winds will lash Preston and the surrounding area from 3pm until around midnight.

The weekend is expected to be cold and crisp throughout the weekend before it takes a turn for the worse on Monday.

Monday 23 December will see according to forecasters: “A very deep area of low pressure will bring very strong winds and heavy rain to much of the UK from Monday morning, through to late Tuesday morning. There is the potential for widespread gales with gusts of 70 mph for much of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, southern and northwest England.”

This yellow warning for wind is expected to last until midnight on Christmas Eve.

There are no weather warnings in place for Christmas Day.
