Morrisons has opened a new ‘lab’ store in Ribbleton.

The second Preston store is an attempt by the supermarket to try something different.

It is meant to be a more American-style supermarket with low-level fixtures and more lights.

The veg is kept in an area called ‘from the Garden’ and is watered with small hoses.

The store also includes a 39,000 square foot cafe called The Eatery.

Morrisons group manufacturing director Mark Harrison, said: “This is a lab store where we are trying out different ways to bring our vertical integration in store. We are trying to make the shopping experience less of a chore and make it something easy and enjoyable.

“It focuses on Morrisons’ core values of quality, value and fresh while still being innovative.”

The Blackpool Road store opened in early December ahead of the Christmas rush.
