A Preston man has been jailed for eight and a half years for firearms offences and a sexual assault in Avenham.
AdvertisementSamuel Taylor, 29, was sentenced at Preston Crown Court after earlier pleading guilty to the offences.
Taylor, of Navigation Way, was jailed for possession of a firearm and sexual assault by penetration which took place on 18 August 2012.
Lancashire Police have praised the victim of the assault who came forward and worked with the police to bring Taylor to justice.
Det Chief Insp Jo Edwards said: “I am pleased with the sentence given which reflects the serious nature of the offences.
“Taylor is dangerous individual who subjected his victim to a horrific sexual assault. The fact that this man had access to a firearm only compounded the level of fear that he placed upon the victim in this case.
“As we do with all reports of sexual offences, we had specially trained officers – who work continuously with our partner agencies – working closely with the victim to provide appropriate support.
“It is to her credit that she has been able to come forward and have the strength to work with the police to help bring this man to justice. I hope that the sentence given will now allow the victim to move forward and to start to rebuild her life.”
