Railway enthusiasts and local history buffs will be offered a weekend to explore the history of Preston’s railways.

The community heritage team at Lancashire County Council are offering the chance to explore the Lancashire Archives and take a walk around sites in the city associated with the railways.

This includes a fabulous chance to tour the Park Hotel in East Cliff which used to be the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Hotel.

It takes place on Friday 20 September from 9.45am to 4pm and costs £5 (excluding lunch). Booking is by phoning 01772 533 039.

A working model railway will also be on display at the Harris Lbrary from Friday 20 September to Sunday 22 September

Families exploring their history with a link to the railway are invited to join members of the community heritage team for talks at the Ribble Steam Railway Museum.

Using railway ancestors as examples they will help you start your own family tree, children will be able to make their own paper stations and trains, and there will be a display of atmospheric photos of trains old and new.

It takes place from 10am to 3pm on Saturday 21 September.
