The latest Preston Social event will explore how social media is working within communities.
The Social is a chance for users of social media, such as Twitter or Facebook, to come together and discuss issues.
September’s event will see Matt Stanton from the city council explaining more about his role in community engagement for the council.
The Social site says: “At the Preston Social this month he’ll be discussing whether or not social media can help us build social capital in neighbourhoods and whether or not we can use it as a platform to communicate important messages regarding the places we live.
“He’ll also turn to the issue of websites and whether or not a community group with it’s own site is more likely to engage people. Matt has worked at for Preston County Council for five years, in varying positions all concerned with community activism; in other words, empowering local residents to act in order to improve Preston.
“Alongside the police, housing association and other council bodies, Matt has helped communities come together to change where they live to make it a better place. Over more recent years, he has taken a solid interest in social media and it’s role within communities.”
The Social takes place on Tuesday 24 September at The Continental on South Meadow Lane.
It is free to attend, starts from 6.30pm and you need to register via the Eventbrite page.
