A local cable fault has affected traffic lights and businesses in the Lane Ends area of Preston causing shops to close and road traffic to slow to a crawl. One onlooker said it was ‘chaos’.

Some shops have put up signs and notices saying no electricity and are turning away customers.

Electricity Northwest have stated that they are aware of the fault and are urgently seeking a solution.

Their website states: “We have a local cable fault affecting Ashton-on-Ribble. We believe that this affects your property. This fault is due to damage to our equipment. Our engineers are aware of the problem.

“Our team is now on site and working to restore your supply. We have now restored as many customers as possible by alternate means. Unfortunately as your property is close to the point of damage we will not be able to restore your power until we have completed our repairs. We expect to restore your supply by 23:00 hours today. This is our best estimate at this time and may change as additional information becomes available. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this interruption.”

As far as we are aware roads affected are Tulketh Brow, Mafeking Road, Blackpool Road, Roebuck Street, Stocks Road and Ladysmith Road.
