The results of the outdoor cinema showings vote has been revealed.

Some classic films will be shown on the Harris Flights on Friday 13 September and Saturday 14 September.

Classic film favourites Some Like it Hot, Ghostbusters, and the original Friday the 13th will get an airing on their huge outdoor screen, with a few surprise besides.

These Harris Flights events are part of the organisation’s wider Cinema around the Corner initiative, BFI funded project focusing on co-programming and touring film across communities in Preston, Lancashire, and maybe right on your very doorstep.

Friday’s exciting line-up sees a welcome airing of Some Like it Hot, the much-loved gender-bending comedy classic starring Marilyn Monroe. The Billy Wilder film is a ‘People’s Choice’ screening as voted for by local Facebook users.

Following this, those of a nervous disposition will be evacuated as popular local doom merchants Evil Blizzard take to the stage to perform a live soundtrack to a sinister silent short (film TBC).

Also not for the nervous is the third film of the night, the cult classic original version of Friday the 13th, restricted to over 18s only. Although now over 30 years old, it remains a bloody business, with its fair share of jump-out-of-your seat shocks and that twist ending. What other horror film should be screened on this particular date?

‘Things that go bump in the night’ are present again on Saturday evening when the audience can re-enter the wacky 80s world of Ghostbusters – winner of the other ‘People’s Choice’ vote by an absolute landslide. The second film of the evening is a ‘Secret Screening’, only to be revealed on the night. Perhaps the fact that the Northfiyah Reggae Sound System will be providing a DJ set beforehand can be taken as a clue as to what said film might be about?

Popcorn will be available, and moviegoers are actively encouraged to get in drag for Some Like it Hot or don a boiler suit for Ghostbusters!

The Cinema on the Steps events and the Cinema on the Corner project are brought to you by They Eat Culture in partnership with the BFI, Preston City Council, the Harris Museum & Art Gallery and Rotola. It all starts at 7.15 on Friday 13th September with the screening of Some Like it Hot. Entry is free to all.
