A new church could be opening on Grimshaw Street as it looks for new premises.
The Full Life Church, who current worship in The Old Grimshaw Street School, have applied for permission to convert a former office block.
The former Avon Centre just off Church Street would become a church over two floors would room for a creche, church hall, community space and Sunday school.
Mr Alastair Patience, submitting the application for the church, has clarified why the church wish to open from 7am to nearly midnight every day.
He writes: “We are intending to use the building as a place of worship and community centre and the nature of those uses is that there may be times when we want to open early (for a breakfast prayer meeting, for example) or close late (for an evening meeting, homeless soup kitchen/drop-in centre, etc.), but these things will not be taking place on a daily, or perhaps even weekly basis.
“We, therefore, want to make it clear that we view the opening times we have submitted as an opening window so that we have the flexibility to open early or late if necessary; they are not what we intend to be our standard and consistent opening times.”
Mr Patience also explains how some of the members are involved as Street Pastors, who help out police patrols in the city centre dealing with drunken revellers.
