Traffic at the Broughton roundabout is often backed up due to congestion on the A6
Work on the Broughton roundabout continues with overnight closures beginning from Sunday 11 August.
The roadworks which will allow extra traffic through the bottle-neck junction of the A6 and M55 and allow growth in the north of Preston started in June.
The scheme is part of a transport masterplan for Preston and the surrounding area and the Broughton roundabout works are costing £2.6 million to complete.
Lancashire County Council now state the work to widen the approaches to the roundabout neds overnight road closures to complete.
Eastway passed the Fire Station HQ between the A6 Garstang Road and the roundabout on Eastway to the west of the A6 will be closed from 8pm to 6am from Sunday 11 Augus to Thursday 19 September.
Drivers will be diverted down Lightfoot Lane and Eastway.
Full overnight closures and diversions
Alongside this the county council will close the Broughton roundabout including all access onto and off the M55 at Junction one completely from 8pm to 6am on the nights of Monday 14, Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 October.
Traffic approaching from the north along the A6 Garstang Road will be diverted along Whittingham Lane through Longridge and onto Bluebell Way and Eastway. Southbound motorway traffic will join the M6 at Junction 31a via Bluebell Way.
Traffic approaching from the south along the A6 Garstang Road will use the same diversion route in the opposite direction.
M55 eastbound Motorway traffic wishing to exit the M55 motorway at Junction 1 will be diverted off the M55 Motorway at Junction 3.
M6 southbound traffic wishing to join the M55 and exit at Junction 1 will be directed to continue south on the M6 to Junction 30 at Samlesbury and then back northbound on the M6 to exit at Junction 31a.
M6 northbound traffic wishing to join the M55 and exit at Junction 1 will be directed to leave the M6 at Junction 31a for destinations south of the M55 or continue to J33 for destinations north of the M55.
All diversion routes will be signed.
