Work to convert a car showroom in Ashton has begun.

The former Jags showroom on Blackpool Road will make way for a new dental surgery, new food retailer and another shop next door.

The builders are now working away but the development nearly didn’t happen.

Preston City Council’s planning committee originally refused the application in June 2012, but it was overturned by the planning inspector in October the same year.

It had been rejected by councillors due to fears over increased traffic on Blackpool Road, although the planning inspector found nothing from the county council’s highways department to support this.

Bernie Blackburn has been down to snap a pic as the building is changed.
