Plans to extend a mosque in Fulwood are due to be nodded through.
AdvertisementThe Preston Muslim Society has applied for permission to add a single storey extension to the side of the building on Watling Street Road.
The planning application was called in by College ward councillor Bobby Cartwright to be discussed by the committee, as it falls within the Fulwood Conservation Area.
Previous permission to demolish the mosque which stood on the site prior to 2012 was granted and this is an extension to those plans.
The Muslim Society say the extension is needed for a small Janazah, an area for a person that has passed away and is part of the Islamic burial customs.
Originally the site was a hotel when it was converted to a mosque in 1996.
One letter of objection has been received stating the plans are “premature” as the mosque has not been operating since the rebuilding began.
The city council’s planning committee is due to meet on Monday 5 August from 10am at the Town Hall. Council officers have recommended the plans for approval.
You can view the full plans online at the council website.
