Preston residents have been told they don’t need an excuse for a street party.

Last year saw 145 street parties held for the Guild, Jubilee and Olympics but now council bosses are encouraging more.

Applications to host a street party, whatever the occasion, the council offers to process applications free of charge.

Cabinet member for leisure councillor Tom Burns said: “This is another great legacy of the Guild and builds on the success of the street parties held last year, bringing communities and streets together.

“Residents don’t have to have a specific occasion in mind or even any experience to host a street party, just some enthusiasm! There is plenty of information available on our website offering advice and hints and tips on how to organise one.”

Applications and a toolkit for hosting a street party can be found online on the council website.
