The people of Preston came out in force today to show their support for the Preston Carnival. The sun helped of course and it was a great atmosphere as the Carnival left Moor Park shortly before 1pm on a different route than normal as it headed toward the City centre. The change saw the Carnival procession start and finish at Moor Park this year – Avenham Park is still recovering from last year’s Guild celebrations.
Two participants share a joke during the processions
There seemed to be less floats and bands than usual this year but it certainly didn’t stop the carnival goers from having a good time. There were many familiar faces – some of the participants take part year after year and this helps generate a real community feel to the Carnival.
I love the event – it’s a riot of colour and everywhere you turn there is something or someone to photograph. 2014 will be the Carnival’s 40th Anniversary and I’m already looking forward to the event.
Colourful outfits were everywhere on the streets of the city
