There’s a £2.5m investment going on from the city council to phase out the current recycling boxes.
Councillors say the new wheelie bins will increase the amount recycled by residents.
Councillor Robert Boswell, Cabinet Member for Environment who said: “Once again Preston is leading the way and we are proud to be a city that recycles.
“Soon over 30,000 homes across Preston will have easy to use wheeled bins for their recycling.
“It’s about making it as easy as possible to recycle and we’ve introduced these new recycling bins as a direct result of listening to people asking for a better, more convenient recycling service.
“This will not only make it easier for people to recycle but will also make a massive difference to the local and global environment. Since the scheme was first introduced a year ago, we have seen an extra 400 tonnes of waste being recycled by the people of Preston and we are confident of even greater success in the future.”
Have you got the new recycling bins? What do you think? Do you recycle more?
