Councillor Afrin will be the new Mayor for 2013-14 in Preston
A new Mayor will be sworn in tomorrow at the Town Hall.
Councillor Veronica Afrin will take on the role for the year ahead as Carl Crompton’s time as Guild Mayor comes to an end.
Cllr Afrin has represented the St Matthews ward since 1990 and has been Deputy Mayor during the Guild Year.
She said: “It’s a great honour to be chosen as the new Preston Mayor and follow a prestigious line of people who have served in this role.
“I have been a councillor in Preston since 1979 and am now looking forward to serving the proud people of Preston in a different capacity during the upcoming 12 months.”
Cllr Afrin has appointed her daughter Joanne and granddaughter Colette as her Mayoresses.
During her time as a councillor she has served on numerous committes including road safety and houses.
The Mayor making ceremony will take place during the full council meeting on Wednesday 15 May.
