Preston welcomed TV sports presenter Dan Walker to the University of Lancashire (UCLan) yesterday.
The UCLan is celebrating 50 years of journalism teaching at the city centre campus. In fact the UCLan is globally recognised as a centre for excellence in journalism and digital communication.
The BBC Football Focus presenter and Match of the Day reporter was invited to give a guest lecture in School of Journalism at the university. He also took part in an open and inspiring question and answer session after his lecture which was enjoyed by all. Ā Later he presented the annual Matthew Hesketh Award for achieving outstanding grades to top Sports Journalism student Josh de Kooker. The award is named after former student Matthew who died in a car crash in 2007.
Dan gained an MA in journalism at the University of Sheffield. Interesting personal fact, due to his Baptist ubringing he never works or plays sport on a Sunday.
Dan tweeted that he was visiting ‘Preston University’ only to be reminded by hundreds of his followers that it is properly called the UCLan. He also said he talked to the students in his lecture about the importance of spelling but had recently been tweeting ‘West Bromich’ instead of Bromwich (he will set fire to a finger later). Dan tweeted that it was lovely to meet the UCLan students and congratulated them on their top questions.
