Preston residents are invited to help plant trees in a city park this coming weekend.

Over 300 trees will be planted by the Friends of Ashton Park after a tree donation by the Forestry Commission and Trust for Conservation Volunteers.

Councillor Robert Boswell, cabinet member for environment, said: “The friends group work very hard to improve Ashton Park and it’s great that this free community event will allow people to get their hands dirty and plant trees which will make a real difference to the environment in the park.

“There will be an opportunity for any members of the public who come along to plant a tree, and young people can make a free bird feeder to take away.”

The planting takes place from 1pm on Saturday 16 February. Meet at the Rangers Pavillion next to the bowling green.
