20mph zones have already been introduced on some roads in the city

Three further roads in Preston could be restricted to 20mph as part of a county council plan.

Lancashire County Council is seeking permission to start work on reducing the speed limits on Station Lane, Broughton, Darkinson Lane, Lea and the area around Navigation Way on the Docks.

A report from the council states: “Lancashire County Council is committed to introducing 20mph speed limits in all main residential areas and outside all schools by 2013. The current policy within Lancashire is for the introduction of 20mph speed limits with signs only.”

The request to introduce speed limits on the three Preston roads have come from county councillors and Parish Councils.

Highways and transport officer will evaluate the need for 20mph limits and report back their findings in April 2013 for a detailed consultation to begin.
