English Heritage and the 20th Century Society put the building forward for listing two times only for the Preston Council to fight against due to what seems now over optimistic hopes for the Tithebarn re-generagtion Scheme.

Both listing attempts were vetoed by the two respective Culture Secretaries of the time.

The World Monuments Fund have also recognised the building as unique and important. If the building was listed then it would be likely to attract grants and assistance towards its maintenance.
