‘Nightmare’ roadworks due to be completed on 31st October.
The A583 Watery Lane outbound near Strand Road has been closed due to roadworks for what seems like an eternity.
New building works by United Utilities at the Watery Lane Grand Junction will let excess water flow into the £114m storm water tunnel running the length of the city 100ft underground and carry it to Penwortham before pumping it to waste water treatment works at Clifton Marsh.
The vital sewer work is almost complete but further delays have been caused by road re-surfacing with the inclusion of new traffic and pedestrian crossing lights (something previously lacking from the junction). This should all come to an end on 31 October When Westbound traffic can use Warety Lane again.
A United Utilities spokesperson said: “I know how inconvenient all this work has been to businesses and road users and would like to thank everyone for their continued patience.”
Across from the A5072 West Strand (Last Orders Junction) and up to to Swansea Street, affecting traffic from Preston City Centre towards the docks.
Both pedestrians and vehicles have been affected
