Preston in the Picture – The Darwen and the Ribble

the darwen and the ribbile

The River Ribble is normally the river you always associate with Preston but there’s another river that runs through the City that is not quite so well known and that’s the River Darwen.

This lesser known river starts to flow in the Lancashire hills and winds its way through Hoghton and Walton-le-dale before joining the River Ribble close to Avenham Park near the centre of Preston.

This week’s picture was taken looking back towards the City centre at the point where the rivers meet. The stormy sky and the sun on the foreground helps to create a more dramatic image.

This is another picture taken on the small but excellent Fuji x100.
