It really is the end of an era for the traditional barbers in Cannon Street, Preston.
For over 28 years, Darren and his predecessors have been cutting and shaving Preston lads hair. Your basic stuff, no nonsense. A place where old Preston celebs used to go. Many of the past Preston North End football team regulars and management graced the barbers chair. Darren has many tales to tell if you care to ask him.
Before Darren there was ‘Butcher Bill’, renowned for his use of the electric razor much loved in favour of the slower scissors. So what if you lost an ear or two. His shaves were the best in town.
One of the images most people will remember from Darrens is the little red car where kiddies could ride waiting for their parents or get their hair cut. This car was first on the street in the 1940’s.
Darren has since moved to the Jo and Cass Salon at the West end of Fishergate (near the train station and in what was once Tommy Balls shoe store)
