The Town Hall will be closed to the public on Monday 3 September and Friday 7 September to cope with the “sheer scale of the Guild events, processions and celebrations”.

Leader of the council, councillor Peter Rankin, said: “Preston Guild happens only once every 20 years, but it is a mammoth undertaking. During the Guild our staff will be working at all hours of the day to ensure the Guild is a major success.

“We’ve had to transfer staff from their normal duties to Guild duties and, as such, the Town Hall will be closed on the 3rd & 7th September.”

The council’s telephone services and website will be available on both days.
