The people of Preston will gather in Penwortham this weekend for the annual Penwortham Gala.
The Gala organisers have promised to put on a spectacular show this year to coincide with the Preston Guild celebrations. There will be a range of activities and entertainment for all the family across the two days, beginning with the procession on Saturday at 12.30pm led by the Gala Queen and the Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service pipe band.
All of the events will take place on Hurst Grange Park, including the Tracey Rigby Dance & Fitness troupes, Mary Whelan Irish dancers, belly dancing by Carol Menzies and the Cuerden birds of prey on Saturday. In the evening, music will be provided by tribute act QWEEN with support from local artists Rebecca Wiley and Josh Adams.
Sunday features an Open Air Church Service at 11am and then a day of activities just for the kids, who will be kept entertained at the Teddy Bear’s Picnic from 12.30pm, followed by a packed afternoon of children’s fun and games including face painting and the John Garland puppets.
The Gala will be officially opened by the Mayor of Penwortham, Councillor Melvyn Gardner, and all money raised will go to his chosen charities.
