Below is the latest post in our series of Q&As with election candidates standing to be councillors in Preston.
The election takes place on Thursday 3 May 2012 and we’ve emailed this list of questions or posted it through every candidate’s door so you can find out what’s beyond the name on the ballot paper and what they will do for your local area if elected.
Full name? Jason Jeffrey
Party? Liberal Democrats
Ward? Lea Ward
Occupation? Retail Area Manager for a large food retailer
What has made you decide to stand for election? I am standing for election in the hope that I can contribute to the area I live and work in. It’s a great place – I want to maintain what we’ve already got and work to improve it for the future. I have 10 years experience as a Liberal Democrat Councillor, I think this experience, along with a passion to maintain and improve our Ward and our City means I can contribute to the City Council. If I am elected to the Council this May I will not claim any of the allowances paid to Councillors for the whole of my term.
What are the key issues for your ward? There is a lot of new development planned for Lea Ward (Lea, Lea Town and Cottam) – it is vital that the infrastructure is maintained and improved to keep pace with this development – our City Councillors need to be a strong voice for the area – on the City Council, with the County Council, and with other agencies to make sure this happens. Lea Ward is a great place to live – we need to make sure it stays that way!
If you were elected, how would you keep your constituents informed? I write and deliver regular Focus leaflets in the area, along with our County Councillor Bill Winlow – I will continue to do this all year round if I am elected to the Council. I will also hold regular surgeries. I can be contacted at jason@jasonjeffrey.com.
