Below is the latest post in our series of Q&As with election candidates standing to be councillors in Preston.

The election takes place on Thursday 3 May 2012 and we’ve emailed this list of questions or posted it through every candidate’s door so you can find out what’s beyond the name on the ballot paper and what they will do for your local area if elected.

John PotterFull name? John Potter

Party? Liberal Democrats

Ward? Cadley

Occupation? Head of AV Production (Express Gifts Ltd)

What has made you decide to stand for election?¬†I’m standing for re-election because the last 21 months, since I was elected, have been the most rewarding of my life. From the council chamber to your front door I have been a visible and positive presence towards a cleaner, safer and fairer Cadley ward. Local politics is about who gets the work done and for over 20 years only the Liberal Democrats have been doing that in Cadley. While the other parties only turn up at election time (if that) the Cadley Lib Dem Focus Team is with residents 365 days a year.

What are the key issues for your ward?¬†Speeding cars, parking at school times, dog fouling and anti-social behaviour on Mill Lane Park and Jubilee Fields.¬†On all these issues I’ve been working with residents, council officers, schools, the neighbourhood policing team and my colleague Cllr John Bruton.

If you were elected, how would you keep your constituents informed? Residents in Cadley expect and look forward to their regular Focus leaflets. Focus keeps them informed about what is happening in their area, at Town Hall and within Lancashire County Council. Anyone can follow me on Twitter (@johnpotterLD), there is also a Facebook page for the Fulwood Lib Dems ( or our regular website (

Anything else to add? The pothole on Hillpark Avenue has been reported (our community work continues even during the election period) and thanks for all the great support and best wishes.
