Some news to cheer Preston North End fans today, David Beckham will be returning to Deepdale next Saturday to lead the celebrations for Sir Tom Finney’s 90th Birthday.
AdvertisementMirrorFootball reported late last night that owner Peter Ridsdale has recruited Beckham, who was loaned to the Lilywhites during the 1994-95 season, for the special home game against MK Dons.
Sir Tom, who turns 90 on Thursday, is acknowledged as one of the greatest ever players in English football history.
He played 433 times for North End, scoring 187 goals.
The day will also feature a video message from Sir Alex Ferguson along with tributes from David Cameron and FIFA president Sepp Blatter.
The FA’s chairman, David Bernstein, will attend the game.
North End are currently floundering in League One and a statement from Peter Ridsdale said he hopes the bonaza of entertainment will boost attendance numbers.
He said: “Sir Tom Finney was one of the greats, both on and off the pitch.
“He was not only one of the best players the world has ever seen he was also, and remains, a true gentleman.”
