I have a funny feeling this train was actually leaving Preston Station but that didn’t really work as a title! Having spent about half an hour on the old East Lancs Railway bridge waiting for the sunset, I was happy to finally get a result. A few trains had trundled across the current railway bridge coming in and out of Preston Station while I was waiting, but I was kind of hoping that the sunset and the arrival or departure of a Virgin Train would happen together. I was finally rewarded with this picture so the patience paid off on this occasion.
While looking up some information for this blog I was interested to read on one of Virgin’s websites that “The Virgin Trains experience isn’t just about your enjoyment of the train journey. We want you to step into our very special world even before you get onboard.” That was clearly written by someone who hasn’t caught a train from Preston Station. The ‘very special world’ is a ‘very cold world’ at this particular station and the never ending station improvements don’t seem to be materialising very fast despite the fact that the station has had more than £1m spent on it recently. Almost five million passengers a year use the station so let’s hope the improvements continue.
