A statement from the family said: “Dot’s family and friends have been deeply distressed and shocked at her untimely death. She was the family matriarch. It has been hard to comprehend that a quick bus journey to purchase a few groceries could end in such tragic circumstances.”

Police are appealing for information about the collision to try and piece together the events leading to the death of the Ribbleton pensioner.

Sergeant Steve Wignall from the Road Policing Unit said: “I would appeal to anybody that witnessed this collision or with any information that could assist with our investigation to come forward about contact Lancashire Police on 101.”
