A group of men prepare to parade during the 1952 Preston Guild
The deadline for nominating someone to join a very special group of Prestonians is fast approaching.
Saturday 31st March is the last day you can enter someone to become a Guild Burgess – one of the highest honours someone in the city can receive and the first time members of the public have been eligibile to put people forward.
Those nominated and chosen by Guild organisers will need to have gone above and beyond to help people in the city, do something creative or have been a dynamic and driving force in the city’s community.
Stella Hall, Guild festival director, spoke in January about the honorary burgess nominations.
She said: “For the first time ever, we are asking members of the public to nominate people from their community who they think should be recognised for what they have done and continue to do for our great city.
“Honorary Burgesses can also pass their status down to their sons and daughters and these new families will make the 2012 Guild Roll a more representative picture of Preston today, helping to bring a tradition that started more than 800 years ago into the 21st Century.”
Twenty people will receive the accolade at a special ceremony on Saturday 8 September, and have their name recorded on the Guild Roll.
Nomination forms are available on the Preston Guild website.
