We got her when she was three (she’s nearly 5 now), and she’s a very strange dog in terms of her temperament. For a long time she never barked and even now she only does a ‘gruffy’ little growl if someone knocks on the door. She likes to be near humans and doesn’t care for other dogs. If you’re sat down, she likes nothing more than to rest her chin on you and sit beside you. She goes crazy when you pick up her lead because she loves her walks in Avenham park so much, and oddly, she loves eating raw carrot as a treat. She’s a bit of a celebrity dog, constantly getting stopped in the park. People are curious what she is (maybe they don’t recognise her as a pug because she’s black). With her being 3, I was convinced we couldn’t teach her any tricks. However, we’ve managed to teach her ‘paw’ where she sits and lifts one arm to receive a treat. The only problem is that she goes so crazy if you withhold food from her (that she knows she’s eventually getting) that she now lifts both arms and pounces. She’s sort of made up her own trick that looks a lot like lunging.
