A Ribbleton takeaway’s bid to serve booze could be refused because of problems with crime and disorder in the area.

Carlito’s Pizza on Miller Road wants to sell booze until 1am on Friday and Saturday nights.

Owner Hussien Abdulla has also applied to sell alcohol from 11pm to 12noon from Sunday to Thursday.

Mr Abdulla faces objections from Lancashire Police who say another place to buy alcohol in the area will lead to an increase of crime and disorder at the premises and surrounding area.

A letter to Preston city council’s licensing sub committee states Ribbleton already “suffers from high incidents of crime and disorder”.

The police also claim Mr Abdulla’s measures to ensure the safe sale of alcohol will be “insufficient”.

The application is due to be heard by the council’s licensing sub committee at 10am on Friday 27th January at the Town Hall. You can view the papers relating to the hearing on the council website.
