Preston’s morning rush-hour commuters are set for misery for the rest of the week as emergency roadworks take place.
AdvertisementOne lane of the A6 in Walton-le-Dale, by the Yew Tree pub heading into the city, is closed while engineers inspect a broken drain.
It was shut this evening and is not expected to be reopened before the weekend.
Lancashire County Council’s highways manager, Rachel Crompton, said: “We’re sorry for the delays we know this lane-closure will cause but we do really need to carry out this emergency repair immediately and would like to thank people in advance for their cooperation.
“We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly as possible but would advise people who use this route to consider taking an alternative if they can or to leave extra time for their journey, particularly if they’re travelling at peak time.”
Engineers found water was building up under the road instead of draining away to the main sewer.
