Mother mourns loss of baby Ollie McBride killed in Ribbleton

A mother has spoken of her loss after her six-month-old son, Ollie McBride, died at a house in the East of Preston after his father had hung himself.

Michaela Swain said: “No words I could ever write could express how much I love my beautiful baby boy Ollie. Goodnight sweetheart, sweet dreams. Mummy loves you. Moo moo. X”

Baby Ollie was rushed to Preston Royal Hospital on Wednesday evening after police were called to a house in Marl Hill Crescent, Moor Nook, Ribbleton.

Post mortem results show the young boy had died of suffocation.

The body of Paul McBride, a 39-year-old taxi driver who used to work for Millers Taxis, was found by relatives at the house at 6.15pm on Wednesday.

Det Supt Neil Esseen said: “The death of a child in any circumstances is harrowing but this case is exceptionally tragic and we are working hard to determine exactly what has happened as quickly as possible to provide some closure for the family.

“Specially trained officers are currently supporting the family who are understandably distraught.

“This is a tragic case and we have a team of detectives currently carrying out searches and speaking with friends, family and neighbours to try and establish the sequence of events.”
