A man was found dead in the East of the city last night after police were called to an address in Ribbleton.

39-year-old Paul McBride is believed to have killed his six-month-old son, Ollie, before hanging himself.

Lancashire Police confirmed officers were called to Marl Hill Crescent in the Ribbleton area of the city at 6.15pm on Wednesday.

The taxi driver was found dead and his son was in a “very poorly” condition and later died at Preston Royal Hospital.

Detective Superintendent Neil Esseen said: “It is being treated as a murder inquiry, although we are not looking for anybody else in connection with this incident.

“We are still in the very early stages of this investigation, but we are conducting a number of inquiries in order to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths.”

Post mortem examinations to establish the cause of death will now be carried.

ITV reporter Mark Tattersall tweeted this photo from the scene.

Twitter user Preston Taxi tweeted: “One of my colleagues & a baby have been found dead in Ribbleton. Very very sad.”

Another user, Kelzzz, wrote: “Such a sad day for the people of Moor Nook right now! He was a well known man, very popular and that poor baby! Too young :(”
