Disclosure: I’m involved in the Speak Up Preston project myself, as a co-partner. My role involves teaching and training community journalists in Deepdale, Ribbleton and St Matthew’s.
Your Preston FM is inviting the people of East Preston to join them in a new community project, based in the areas of Deepdale, Ribbleton and St Matthew’s.
The East Preston Challenge provides an opportunity for the communities of East Preston to take the lead in improving parts of their community and win a cash prize to make it happen.
People living or working within the areas of Deepdale, Ribbleton and St. Matthew’s can put forward their ideas of how they can make a difference within their community by working together with others to make a change for their neighbourhood.
Richard Lace, Project Manager for Your Preston FM said: “The East Preston Challenge is a great way of encouraging the people of Deepdale, Ribbleton and St Matthew’s to share their ideas on how they could improve their local area.
“Through Your Preston FM, people can win cash prizes to develop their own community projects, helping to engage with their neighbours and building strong and lasting communities.
“Your Preston FM’s community journalists will be documenting the development of the successful projects, in a series of dedicated programmes”.
People wanting to get involved with the East Preston Challenge can put forward their creative ideas at a series of “Autumn of Action” events, allowing people to meet and discuss ideas with others living or working locally.
These events will be held during September and October and are open to anyone of any age; provided that they live or work in one of the three dedicated areas. The first event is this Saturday at the West View Leisure Centre, and you can view the full list below.
Saturday 24 September: 10:30 – 4:30 – West View Leisure Centre, St. Matthews
Saturday 1 October: 10:30 – 4:30 – Catherine Beckett Centre, Deepdale Road
Saturday 8 October: 10:30 – 4:30 – Blessed Sacrament Club, Moorside Avenue, Ribbleton
The events are free to attend and Your Preston FM advise to book in advance. To book a place you can contact them on 01772 880791, email them at speakup@preston.fm or visit the project website.
