With only just over a week until the local elections, it’s time to introduce a bit more detail to our election map that I created earlier this month.

I’ve been in contact by post with every candidate who’s standing in the local elections, asking them to take part in our “Candidate Focus”, a series of posts designed to better inform Preston residents about who’s standing in their area and why. The idea for this came from the excellent Lichfield Blog, who are doing the same in their area.

The candidates were all sent the same letter, which asked them to answer the following questions:

Full name?

Party?

Advertisements

Ward?

Occupation?

What has made you decide to stand for election?

What are the key issues for your ward?

If you were elected, how would you keep your constituents informed?

Anything else to add?

We’ve already had a few responses, which we’ll be posting over the next couple of days. Hopefully by the time the election comes round we’ll have plenty of participation from all the candidates. They’ll be added to the election map so that if you click your area you can also access more information about the candidates (provided they’ve replied to us).

If you know anyone standing in the election, encourage them to get in touch with us. We want to feature everyone on the site no matter what political party they stand for, which in turn will mean that people in Preston can make a better informed decision about who to cast their vote for.
