Prescap have celebrated their 25th birthday by officially opening their new headquarters on Fox Street.

The arts-based charity chose to mark the event by announcing a new vision and mission statement for the next three years, and rebranding the charity as “Your Prescap”.

David Knight, outgoing Chair of Prescap said: “Prescap was established to help and support, to foster and to nurture. Today we’re also launching a new brand identity, named Your Prescap, because it is your Prescap.

“The fact that you’re standing here today shows how far we’ve come: from a single industrial unit to this two storey building with workshop space, recording studios and offices”.

Your Prescap is divided into three distinct parts; Your Arts, an initiative to develop community arts projects and creative workshops, Your Creative, Prescap’s social enterprise, and Preston FM, the community radio station. Preston FM broadcasts 80 hours of original radio material per work and supports over 200 volunteer presenters, producers and journalists, offering many training opportunities.

The new mission statement of Prescap includes designing and delivering “opportunites for everyone to realise their potential through arts and media” and to “tailor-make opportunities for people to gain new skills and confidence”.

Guests at the public opening of the building were invited to take a tour to see the new facilities and workshop spaces. Talks by Ben Hunt, Chief Executive of Prescap and Councillor Albert Richardson, Mayor of Preston emphasised what Prescap brought to Preston and the surrounding area, while the audience were also entertained by a ‘Prescap Rap’ and the unveiling of Prescap’s inflatable mascot called ‘Ribble’.
