Local students have been involved in an exciting new radio drama exploring the issues of violent extremism and how young people can get sucked into it. Preston FM is broadcasting Divided We Fall which was made with the help of students from Preston.
Commissioned by Preston community group Shahbash, a not for profit organisation working in Muslim communities across Lancashire, the drama parallels the radicalisation of a young Muslim asian boy Ibrahim, played by Conor Alexander, and Jonno a white soldier returning from Afghanistan, played by John Catterall. Written by Mike Harris the drama explores what makes people vulnerable to violent extremism and what the alternatives might be.
It’s a complex and engaging drama and promises some unpredictable and ghastly results. Divided We Fall is headed by a professional cast that includes Mina Anwar, who has also starred in The Sarah Jane Adventures and Vincent Ibrahim, who has also appeared in Goodness Gracious Me and The Kumars at No 42. Students from Preston supplemented the cast and played a key part in shaping the dialogue.
Tune in this Sunday 7th Feb morning at 9.15am to 103.2FM or listen online Prestom FM to the omnibus of the first week’s episodes. Subsequent episodes will be broadcast Mon – Fri at 9.50pm, with an omnibus each Sunday morning. The show runs until Friday 26th Feb 2010.
