Aiden Shepherd, 20, of Merlin Grove, Leyland has been charged with attempted murder. He has been remanded to appear at Preston Crown Court on 29th May.

Detective Inspector Graeme Simpson, of Lancashire Police, said: “Our investigation into this incident is on-going and we are keen to speak to the dog walker who may hold vital information.

“We believe the walker – who was wearing a head torch and was accompanied by two dogs – was walking through Shrugs Wood shortly before the incident and may have had a conversation with the woman and a man. During the conversation, it is believed the dog walker made reference to the man’s reflective jacket.

“I would also like to reassure the public that this is being treated as an isolated incident and there is not thought to be any threat to the wider public.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Chorley CID on 01257 246190, or failing that, 101, quoting log number LC-20180426-0062.
