What was known as Sizer House is to be demolished and in its place a 425-bedroom apartment block will be built.

Preston City Council’s planning committee gave the green light for the building work.

It is due to include two shops on the ground floor facing into Moor Lane and the whole development will border Ashmoor Street.

A statement from David Cox Architects who tabled the plans said: “We are now acting on the instructions of the applicants to move the scheme towards construction. ‘The Urban Hub’ by Pillars is to bring exclusive and luxurious living to the fast growing student and professional sector of Preston.

“Current works will involve lengthy phases of investigations, producing construction information and tendering works with a view to encouraging local businesses and trades to get involved in this project. Construction is likely to start early in 2019.”

Councillors approved the plans on Thursday 26 April saying it was subject to a Section 106 contribution being secured from the developer.
