Smoke is hanging over Preston due to a fire at Woodplumpton.

Four fire engines from Fulwood, Preston and Penwortham are at the scene near Ambrose Hall Lane.

A large quantity of tyres are on fire fire.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “There is a lot of smoke at the moment so people in the local area are being advised to keep their windows and doors closed at this time as a precaution.”

The incident began shortly after 4pm on Thursday (19 April).

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Shortly before 5.30pm the fire service advised the fire was under control and residents were safe to reopen windows and doors.
