Icy conditions lead to M6 disruption near Preston

Delays remain on the motorway network around Preston following an icy start to Monday (12 February).

The Met Office has a snow and ice warning in force until lunchtime following Sunday’s snowfall.

Two cars were involved in a crash between Junction 29 and 30 on the M6 northbound which gridlocked the motorway heading for Preston.

The crash, which took place around 6.30am, saw two people taken to Royal Preston Hospital to be checked over.

A second crash, around 7.30am, took place between Junction 30 to Junction 31A on the M6 northbound.

Both incidents have now been cleared but delays remain on the M6 northbound and also on the M61 northbound from Junction 8.

Elsewhere, one lane on the M65 towards Blackburn was closed overnight due to heavy snow. It has now fully reopened.

Lancashire Police have warned drivers to adjust their driving to the icy conditions.
