Anyone travelling between Preston and Scotland is being advised to find an alternative route.
AdvertisementVirgin Trains say an obstruction between Oxhenholme and Penrith as well as severe weather in Scotland due to Storm Caroline has led to the line being blocked.
Passengers wanting to travel north of Preston are being told of delays of at least 90 minutes after stopping at Preston Railway Station.
Services between Birmingham and Edinburgh are not affected – so anyone trying to head north is being advised to use the Cross Country route.

Replacement buses are being put on by TransPennine Express between Preston and Carlisle and also between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh.
Around 2pm on Thursday (7 December) all lines reopened but disruption remains.
