Tribute paid to woman found dead near Avenham Park

The woman who was found dead in Avenham Park has been named.

Caren Murtagh, 54, was found by runners during Saturday (25 November) morning as they headed to the weekly Preston Parkrun.

Preston Police were called and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her niece Keira-Rose Buchanan paid tribute to her Auntie – who also referred to herself as Caren. She is also known as Karen Buchanan.

She told Blog Preston: “Rest in peace Auntie Karen.

“You were a special person who was dearly loved by her family and friends.

“You always cared for others and put them before yourself.

“You will be sadly missed by all of us. Love you always. Sleep tight. Love the Buchanan family.”

A police spokeswoman said the death is being treated as unexplained and they continuing to investigate the death.

Anyone who was in the area of Avenham Park and may have seen a middle aged woman during Saturday morning is asked to call police on 101 quoting log ref LC-2017-1125-0362.
